Three Entomologist and a Pyromaniac

Three Entomologist and a Pyromaniac

Tim Martin, John Petranka, Jim Petranka and Bo Sullivan

Just had a visit from 3 great guys. John and Jim Petranka and Bo Sullivan came to the forest to see if it might be somewhere suitable to set some moth traps to sample the varieties to be found here on the fall line. I was introduced to this bunch of invertebrate veterans by another friend, Todd Pusser who thought they might be interested in the chance to find something a little different than the moths they were finding in the Sandhill’s Game Lands (SGL) areas that they normally trap.

I am always quite excited to show our forest and the work we are doing to transform it to anyone willing to dare a hike with me. These guys, apparently not being forewarned, took that hike and ended up covering the whole place. Thank you gentlemen! I enjoyed it immensely and am already hoping you will all come back soon and bring your traps. I promise that next time there won’t be a forced march.

Happy am I to have science in the forest. Happy am I to see folks following their passions. Most happy am I to see both together !

Just to commemorate the visit, I had ChatGPT write a little poem about your quest. I hope that you enjoy.

Three Friends, entomologists keen,

Seeking beauty where it’s rarely seen,

By the beaver pond, they patiently roam,

In search of moths, their hearts at home.

Through darkness they wander, guided by light,

Captivated by wings, delicate and bright,

In the whispers of nature, secrets unfold,

Three friends, united, in awe they behold.
